Prevalence of Parasitic Species in Ruminants Found in the Vicinity of Lahore, Pakistan

In Pakistan, the livestock industry is one of most important subsectors agricultural since it offers a handsome share in gross domestic national growth. However, gastrointestinal parasitic infections are serious health concern for cattle managing organizations and farmers. The effects parasites may vary with age, sex cattle, nutritional practices, severity contagion. For this reason, there need to update knowledge on spatio-temporal differences regulate practices improve conditions animals. current study aimed estimate prevalence bovine, caprine ovine genera reared around Lahore. A total number 160 fecal samples were collected from selected genera. To calculate different genera, all subjected parasitological examination analyzed using direct smear method. general, an overall 40% was recorded which showed 64 positive. observed species Balantidium coli (a protozoan), Fasciola hepatica (liver fluke), Coccidia microscopic Shistosoma bovis (blood Ostertagia ostertagi (parasitic nematode), Trichuris globulosa (intestinal Haemonchus contortus (pathogenic Chabertia ovina roundworms), Strogyloides papillosus nematode). Overall, out samples, positive, while ruminants. Among bovines, (cows buffaloes), multi-parasites be 47.5 37.5%, respectively. (sheep) (goats), 42.5 32.5%, alike adults young. data higher adult bovine as compared species. revealed that significant difference (P value< 0.05) between young buffaloes having coli, cows Fasicola hepatica, goats ostertagi. Additionally, concluded low occurrence due use proper care deworming practices. Moreover, managerial control awareness programs also implemented infections.
